Farmer Deweese (Dewees was the earlier spelling of the name) was the 5th of the 10 children of Benjamin F. Dewees and 1/w Anna Anderson. He was born January 30, 1810 in the newly-created Grayson County, Kentucky. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Dewees and Phebe Brodhead, who was the daughter of Revolutionary War General Daniel Brodhead of the 8th Pennsylvania Continental Line.
According to Jillson's "The Kentucky Land Grants," Farmer received two Grayson County land grants. The grant of 100 acres of land with no watercourse was surveyed on October 27, 1838. The other grant of 40 acres on Short Creek was surveyed on June 6, 1846.
Nancy Haynes and Farmer Dewees were married on February 25, 1837 in Ohio County, Kentucky by John Pinkston. Nancy was the daughter of John Barton Haynes and his 1/w Rhoda A. Huff, long-time residents of Ohio County, Kentucky. She was born there on February 8, 1816. Her paternal grandparents were William Haynes, Jr. and his 1/w Hannah Ellis of Amherst County, Virginia. Her maternal grandparents were William Huff and Mary Hungate of Virginia.

Nancy Haynes Deweese died at the age of 65 years, 9 months and 9 days on November 25, 1881 in Grayson County, Kentucky. Farmer Deweese died there eight and a half years later on July 6, 1890 at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 6 days. They were both buried in the Shain Cemetery near Short Creek, Grayson County, Kentucky.
