According to oral history and legend, Francis Vincent's sons, William, James, and John, came to America c. 1775 and landed in Saint Bartholomew Parrish, South Carolina. John and James moved to Gainsboro in Jackson County, TN, c. 1800, while the other son, William (or George), moved on to Georgia. In the end, there is no objective, conclusive proof of that he was the father of James, William, and John or that he ever even existed.
In any event, Francis (or the person he might have been) is the progenitor of many Vincents, Vinsons, and Vinzants in the American South, including those that eventually made it to Edmonson County, KY.
