A tombstone for a Thomas Vincent is in Holly Springs Cemetery, and its dates are 1840 to May 7, 1936. I'm uncertain of whether the tombstone belongs to this person, James Hayse Vincent's son, or the other Thomas, James Hayse Vincent's brother (and, therefore, son of Old Rubin Vincent). Further research is required.

On September 23, 1875, Jerusha Vincent (daughter of John Vincent and Nancy Jane York) was issued her father's Civil War pension of $8.00 per month. John Vincent had died in the fall of 1874. Nancy Jane married Thomas, John's brother, and James Hayse Vincent, father of John and Thomas, sued for custody of Jerusha. She being 14 at the time was permitted to choose her own guardian and chose James Hayse, her grandfather. (PV p. 22)

Thomas Vincent served in the Civil War; Co. G. 17th Ky. Cavalry. He was described in his pension papers as being 6 feet tall; eyes blue; hair brown; and complection fair.

During the Skirmish at Brownsville, Thomas was the one who shot the Confederate Soldier, who later died. Really there was no battle at Brownsville, a Company of Union Soldiers was on their way to Bowling Green and a few Conderates had come to Brownsville to get supplies, and they just happened to meet at the river, only one shot was fired. Thomas servced in the Union Army under the name of Jackson P. Vincent.

Thomas lived for a time in Custer Co., NE, but returned to Edmonson Co., KY, where he was buried. In October 1935, at age 90, Thomas Vincent applied for a marriage license at Brownsville to marry 23-year-old Lucille Browning. The marriage never took place because Thomas's children objected to it. Thomas was one of the two last survivors of the Civil War in Edmonson County, the last being Jessie I. Houchin.
