Martha's stone shows her name as "MARTHA ELLEN B.B.C." I should presume that the two B's refer to her maiden name (Butler) and her first married name (Bratcher). I do not, however, understand what the C stands for. After Buford Bratcher (her first husband) passed away, Martha married a man named W.E.B. Stone. Perhaps the C was a mistake and should have been an S?
From a transcription of a Family History Roadtrip in October, 2009:
I am in the Caneyville Cemetery in Caneyville, Kentucky, and I am at the grave of my Great Great Grandmother, Martha Ellen Butler. I got to tell you a quick story--it's really interesting. We have been to this cemetery a half dozen times and we have come to see this guy named Lee Bratcher and his sister, Zula, who were my Gandpa Bratcher’s brother and sister. It's funny that right next to Zula and Lee is a stone that says “Martha Ellen B.B.C.” This stone is clearly within 18 inches of Lee Bratcher and we have stood here at least a half dozen times in the last five or ten years and nobody ever noticed the stone right next to Lee--I mean within 18 inches was our Great Great Grandmother. We just didn’t know where she was buried. She was a Butler; she married Buford Bratcher; and then Buford died pretty young so she married a guy named W.E.B. Stone. Nobody ever knew anything about her, which is kind of strange, really. Well, I found a Martha Ellen Stone. I found the right birth date, I found her on the census. I pieced it all together and it absolutely positively works. I found her and it says in her death certificate that she was buried in the Caneyville Cemetery. So I decided to come down here today and look, and I thought, well, let’s just go look around those kids to see, these would be her grandkids, and lo and behold there is Martha Ellen. It's her date of birth and her date of death and it says MOTHER across the top, but get this. This is the interesting thing, it says “Martha Ellen B.B.C." I have no idea what that means. I guess the first “B” would be Butler, the second “B” would be Bratcher, but I have no idea what the “C” would be because she was married to a Stone and her death certificate is a Stone and she is on the census as having been married to a Stone with my Great Grandfather living with them as a 9 year old kid. So, I have no idea what the B.B.C. stands for. But, anyway, it says:
MOTHER Martha B.B.C. May 25, 1833 – September 1, 1922
So I guess she was 89 years old. Anyway, her coordinates are N 37.42218 W 86.48740.
