Primary Notes: Some have suggested that Robert's first name was actually Raymond, but his Death Certificate lists his name as Robert L. Vincent. The SSI Death Index lists his name only as R. Vincent. Bonnie Vincent Hazelip, my grandmother, always referred to him as Lee.

Robert Lee Vincent set up a grocery store in Owensboro for his brother Victor. Apparently, Victor gave so much credit to folks that the store eventually became insolvent. It was suggested that Victor, who had been raised in the very small farming community of Bee Spring, Edmonson Co., KY, was not used to the "big city" ways of Owensboro and was, to some extent, taken advantage of. (Oral History Note 29.)

Victor contracted or discovered that he had tuberculosis while he was in Owensboro. After discovering his illness, he went home to his father's home on Bear Creek in Edmonson County, and then, at the suggestion of his brother Walter, went to the Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Jefferson Co., KY. It has been suggested that Robert Lee paid for Victor's care. (Oral History Note 29.)
